St Rose of Lima was the first canonized saint of the New World. Known as the Patroness of the Americas, she practiced heroic charity and lived as a Dominican Tertiary in the parents' home. She is also known as "Mother of the Poor", working miracles in order to feed her family.  She died at age 31. Her love for God was so intense that she was recognized as a saint in her own time, just 54 years later.  She stands as one of the most popular saints in the history of the Church.
